The Poverty Promise was founded by our Operations Manager, Camryn Schultheis. Camryn formed the New Jersey non-profit with a Board of Directors.
A message from our founder: The inspiration for this non-profit started with an unlikely chain of events due to the onset of COVID-19 at the same time we sold our family home. We remained “homeless” for three years because of the housing shortage, labor shortage, and supply delays. During this time, we were fortunate to find a tiny two-bedroom rental, except there were four of us. At 19 years old, my brother had to live with another family member since there wasn’t enough room. My family was fractured, I felt transient, and while I knew we would be ok, my heart still hurt. I started thinking about people living with these experiences without hope for change. If my temporary situation was making an impact on me, how were they coping?
Skipping meals, separating from family, running out of clean clothing, and struggling to make ends meet. These are all experiences that people living below the poverty line experience daily. The Mission of The Poverty Promise is to provide assistance through education, fundraising, and outreach for the population in need of food, shelter, and clothing. Our goal is to make the lives of those struggling a little easier.
